The Chiltern Concert Band was formed 25 years ago to provide the opportunity for adult musicians to continue their musical interests beyond school and college years. It plays a varied selection from the concert band repertoire, wide-ranging in style and often technically challenging. The band has performed for the Wycombe Arts Festival and has staged several charity concerts.
CHILTERN CONCERT BAND HISTORY
The Chiltern Concert Band was founded in 1982 by John Davie for wind, brass and percussion instrumentalists beyond the school and college age who wished to play wind band music to a high standard. The band’s first home was at Sands Middle School, High Wycombe. This was the home of the High Wycombe Music Centre where there has been a great tradition of wind bands during the past thirty seven years. It is true to say that the present membership of CCB is fifty per cent ex HWMC students.
Since the early 1990’s the band has had it’s home at the Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College. The Director, Professor Bryan Mogford, has given the band his wholehearted support during this period.
The band is organised by a committee which is elected at the Annual General Meeting each October. The conductor is appointed each year at the AGM. When a vacancy occurs prospective conductors are auditioned. The present conductor Chris I'Anson was appointed in July 2007 with John Davie as Musical Director.
The conductors over the years have been Dr. John Howard, Gordon Bain, Duncan Stubbs, Ron Young, Rob Wiffin, Keith Allen, Gary Wotton and David Richards.
